"Plenty of times you wake up in February make-up"-The Replacements

Hey Friends,
Wanted to share some info on a show I just went to check out. It was a one man show called "Looking Over The President's Shoulder", it's playing outside of Philly right now, in a great little town called MEDIA, PA. The star is Brian Anthony Wilson, who was a co star (and an audience favorite) in LEAF.
I went to the show to support Brian, and also, because I really enjoy how he continues to push himself and get to the center of every character he plays. He's one of those guys who's always doing something new and exciting with his craft. In LEAF, there were times, I'd yell CUT right before he ad libbed something great, and that's been my advice to directors who work with Brian "don't cut, just roll the whole time". So watching B.A.W. tell this story, about a butler named Alonzo Fields, a White House butler for 4 presidents....it was inspiring. It was a story about dreams, life and just finding your groove. I felt like I watched it with 2 sets of eyes, the first set as a "audience member" I'd just watch and think "man he's just kicking ass right now" and the other, was just me, watching a teammate go out there and just do his craft, I was watching thinking "wow, what a great choice he made right there with that line" or "man...look at that bit he just did". So if you the have the means and are nearby...please check it out if you're around this weekend...and folks in DC? It's coming your way next week. Feel free and click right here for all of the showtimes, dates and details.
If anything, I think Brian just reminds me, that you can always switch up your style, no matter how well it's going or how comfortable you are, it's always good to challenge yourself and switch it all up. Afterall, this is a guy who did a 2 hour play by himself, and earned himself a well deserved standing ovation. Not an easy task at all. I tip my cap to him.
So, by my watch, as I write this, it looks like we're 3 minutes away from Valentine's Day. So going with that theme, I just heard that Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore are getting married...when did they get together? I must have missed it, however I have lived under a rock for about a year. Either way, I think that's a pretty interesting couple and I'm going to be sure and send them a fondue set or something nice off of their registry. Way to go kids.
Speaking of Ryan Adams though...I had a chance to listen to this record of his..."Rock N Roll". I like it, where Ryan is a little more low key and acoustic...he plugs the guitars in on this one and just gets all Westerberg on us (Westerberg*=One who sounds exactly like super-neat musician Paul Westerberg...of The Replacements...who are quoted in the title...see? It all comes together). Apparently Billie Joe from Green Day jumps on a track too, but I must have missed it...so anyone who's got this 5 year old record and knows which track he's on, please let me know.
Alright....so, now we're about 6 minutes into Valentines Day. Just remember... it's a bullshit holiday, everyone should love their girl or their guy everyday of the year, not just one cold day in February. But even though it's a goofy holiday, I wish you all a happy one.
take care and be good,
TC
