What is this? The LUCY Initiative (Life, Understanding, Compassion, You) is a not for profit group of artists that collaborate and are focused on helping with every aspect of the global community.
The LUCY Initiative is a 2020 Presidential Service Winner.
The LUCY Initiative started in late 2017, as "catch all" as there were a great deal of causes we were all working with on a global level. Putting a name to it simply made it easier from a collaborative standpoint.
Since it's inception, LUCY Initiative has founded causes such as "The Bags Project" which utilizes 50-100 volunteers and members of various communities to assemble bags of hygiene products, water and snacks, and these bags have been handed out all over the east coast of the United States. In Sprin 2019, LUCY Initiave began "Thousand Sock Project" (1kSox), which was a collection of one thousand pairs of new, fresh, clean socks that have been donated to almost 40 charities and shetlers thoughout the tri state areas. The 1kSox Project is always ongoing and has made mutiple donations of socks.
As well as our own projects, The LUCY Initiative has had the great fortune of ongoing continuing collaborations with homeless shelters, military veteran's groups, animal welfare projects, children, health and environmental causes.
Some of our friends and collaborators are below and their links are there too, so if you'd like, you are welcome to click on the links and if you'd like, say hello to them.
"...in life, we need to be a little like the farmer, who puts back into the soil what he takes out"
-Paul Newman
The Humane Society of the United States
-
Everything from cats to dogs to gorillas. Love them, pet them, adopt them, save them. If you ever see a guy who looks like me out there cuddling kitties or walking dogs, please say hello.
The Surfrider Foundation
-
Protecting our beaches or as folks from Jersey would say "protecting the shore" either way, this is a good cause. Also it gives GREAT water conservation tips (shower, turn off the water and then suds yourself up!)
Stand Up 2 Cancer
-
They put together GROUPS of scientists, so it's not just one smart person in the room, it's LOTS of smart people in that room. Plus,100% of every donation goes to cancer research
Habitat For Humanity
-
A really good organization. What I love about it, is it not just builds homes, it builds communities.
Justin's Beach House
-
This program is beautiful. It supports and maintains a home in the Bethany Beach area (that's in Delaware) where families with cancer can have a place of respite and enjoy some family time. It is a place of joy and peace at the beach.
The Ronald McDonald House
-
I've been involved with them for years. Children with illnesses and a place where they and their families can be together and still receive the attention they need. I do whatever I can for them. You can too!
Special Olympics
-
These athletes are warriors, plain and simple. Overcoming any obstacle in front of them. Competing. Smiling. Just trying their best. When I volunteer with Special Olympics, it's always a highlight of my year.
No Kid Hungry
-
So many ways these good folks have to get involved to keep bellies full. Kids, adults, whatever, they deserve a full belly, and here are some great ways to do just that.
The Hole In The Wall Gang
-
Two things I'm very fond of, helping sick kids and Paul Newman. This is a free camp for kids and their families suffering from illnesses. Medical care to go with hiking, boating and beyond. "A different kind of healing"
The Steve Nash Foundation.
-
Aside, from, you know, being one of the greatest basketball players to ever live, Steve Nash has a foundation dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life.
Warriors Helping Warriors
-
This is an amazing grassroots organization that organizes not just veteran's transitions from overseas duty to domestic day to day life, but also provides the same assistance for spouses and families, with the focus on mental and physical wellness.
