Hey friends,
Wanted to tell a little story. As we’re on the brink of the DOWN WITH THE BOOGEY limited release, I wanted to tell you guys how I came aboard this wild project. Everyone want sit in a circle? Sitting criss cross applesauce? Ok good. This was a fun time, when I was on the “13th Grade” tour I’d had the chance to meet a great award winning actor and helluva good guy named Alex Gasbarro,we’d kept in touch and hoped to find where we could work together, a few things came in, but nothing that we could both commit to at the same time.
So I had headed off into filming a studio project, and a script landed on my desk for something called “Down With The Boogey” it sounded cool. It was on my desk and I was going to read it when I wrapped filming my studio project. So the studio project wrapped, and I was hanging out and looking towards directing, and then I got an e-mail, it was Boogey writer/director Jack Knapp who was really cool and very cordial it was something like “hey Tim, I know Alex dropped a script with you, didn’t know if you’d had a chance to read it. Hope you like it” I responded back that it was on my desk and that I’d meant to. Somehow in this mix we discussed the joy of THE CLASH. A director with great music taste and a great film title called “DOWN WITH THE BOOGEY?” It was time to pick up a script and check this out.
Page 13, that was all it took. I e-mailed him back and I said “I think we should work together on this”. It was a scene featuring Alex Gasbarro and the Boogeyman enjoying and ice cream cone together. It was at that point where I thought “I’ve got 90 pages left, but this feels like a funky original project and I gotta know more” a few nights later we were at some irish bar in beautiful downtown Media, Pennsylvania, having a beer and talking about The Pogues. That night, after film talk, pogues talk and a little Foo Fighter talk, I was aboard, I knew this was something funny, and wild and a real crowd pleaser, and I knew Jack was a great story teller and that would translate to the big screen and that he’d knock this one out of the park. I also saw his first film a great little comedy called THE DEAL which is by all accounts, criminally underrated. It's a really great piece with a really gifted cast, and I hope with the exposure BOOGEY is getting, that it will shed some very long overdue light on what a great film THE DEAL reall is. I was excited about getting to work.
So we got cooking, had some laughs, some stunts, some horror, some good times. And a week before I was to start a new film I did my last scene for BOOGEY, and almost broke my arm! That would have REALLY thrown things off. But all was good.
After that the film did a test screening and did really well, it had all the right elements, funny, scary, goofy, great soundtrack (Johnny Lloyd Rollins, check him out, great musician) and the kind soul Ari Silber out in Los Angeles (who was first to see this film) brought it aboard Trillian and Media 8 entertainment, and now finally, we’re ready to get this tour up and going, we’ll be doing a limited run here, slowly slowly slowly getting out there, meeting the fans, hitting some conventions and bringing this great little movie all over the world with us. And it all kicks off on Saturday night in Philly for free! Here are the details.
