Dear Friends,
How's everything and everyone?
2009 is off and going. So what's up? Well we have a lot cooking. Let's talk LEAF first as we're wrapping up all our business on that front. Continuing to do press with some great folks and we'll have a few magazine mentions in the next few months....Dan Patrick, who I was pretty sure hated my guts last month on our west coast press tour, gave us a nice mention in Sports Illustrated and we'll have some love from San Diego in their magazine out in the next few weeks (San Diego has show us so much love, it shows a great deal about the good folks in that beautiful city. It's been an honor to tell their story). In a very strange turn of events, I got a call from the NFL, who gave us love early on, but called to tell me they had no idea our little film would get this much press and get this big. I'm with the NFL in this opinion, I had no idea either. But I'm grateful.
Now, with that film cooking, we head into TV Pilot season....this is a fun time. I did a pilot for FOXC in front of the camera a couple years ago and had a few things written for the networks since, but this'll be my first TV pilot in a handful of years. The bad thing about pilot season? New TV sitcom/drama shows are at a low. Reality tv, 24 Hour sports shows, Tivo. DVR, it makes it tough for a tv pilot to launch into the next "CHEERS" or "FRIENDS". But the fun part is on the creative side....you're working with a cast and crew and writers....and who knows if anyone will ever see your work? It throws in a theater element to that, and it keeps the energy pumping. This is a fun time, but just like the other film....filled with absolute uncertainty....so you just keep your head down and do the greatest work that you can. We'll have some stories for you all from "pilot season" I promise.
Now, with 2009 in full full swing about 35 days in, I'm not sure I ever gave 2008 it's props...there's some great stuff I discovered for the first time in 08....like this:
IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA
Been hearing about it for eons, so I finally tuned in. Enjoyed every minute of it, "Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life" may be the funniest 26 minutes of television I'd seen in in all of 2008. "Is this a laser pointer. Can I have it? I'm going to take it anyway."
The Shushies
Ok, I was a rookie dad in 2008. So my little guy wouldn't watch Elmo or Barney, the only show he likes are these puppets. The plotline is, they create all your dreams for you and then rock out all night. Good times. He loves it. Zeez is kinda cool. He's the soner looking one on the far left.
ROCK OF LOVE BUS
Was this 08 or 09? Either way, it's the tv equivalent of a BIG MAC. Seems like a good idea at first, but you feel guilty for doing it about 30 seconds after it's over. Damn you Bret Michaels for making such great train wreck TV.
So I look forward to seeing what SUNNY, the Shushies and Bret all have in store for us in the coming months as well....so 2009 is really taking off....now let's just see where it all lands....
take care and be good,
TC
